The Abyss Worm is an enemy in the Dawn of Souls and succeeding versions of the original Final Fantasy, meant to be this game's version of the stronger species introduced in Final Fantasy II. It is a powerful and rare enemy, found in the open desert level of the Earthgift Shrine, encountered either as a single enemy or in pairs.

Battle Edit

The Abyss Worm is extremely dangerous. It possesses the highest HP of any non-boss enemy and deals tremendous physical damage. It can catch the party off-guard should they encounter the worms unprepared, and elicit a quick death. It resists most status ailment-inflicting spells, such as Sleep, Confuse and Stun.

Strategy Edit

Abyss Worms should be targeted with a Death or Kill spell. If this is not possible, they then should be treated as a boss fight. Physical fighters should be buffed with Temper and Haste, and the White Mage should heal when necessary. Non-elemental spells, such as Flare, are recommended if the party is at a high level.

Etymology Edit

Abyss refers to a bottomless pit, to the underworld, to the deepest ocean floor, or to hell, or more loosely to any chasm or large drop.
